About Us

Have you or a loved one ever experienced a time of unemployment or homelessness? This magazine, The Rag, is for unemployed high school students, graduates and homeless Shelters to help those who need to build their lifes by supplying people with jobs. We have decided to do a magizine on how unemployment causes homelessness, because there is a huge issue in the west valley community. 

Our first project was written by Logan and is a memoir of a time with unemployed homeless people wandering streets and living in tents. This is a part of the issue, most of these homeless people need a nicer place to stay, and a way to make money to stay there. Our next project was written by Johnathon and it is about a time he was public transportation and there was a bunch of homeless people sleeping on the train and wandering on and off with nowhere to go. These are meant to show people imagery of what it is like to be homeless. This also shows how much being employed will help you life. We tried to creat imagery to show that homelessness should be a life style that is always stay far from.We also wanted shelters to see how much having a shelter for those who do fall unto homelessness can go to the shelters and move off the streets.

Our second project was our profiles. Logan did a profile on Mark Knold, Utah’s chief economist. Logan did his profile on him because his main responsibility is to make sure there are job opportunities for anyone in Utah. We also have a video profile on Pamala Atkinsin Written by Johnathon. She has a huge effect on the homeless community of Utah and can make a huge difference in the outcomes of our work. We needed to reach people that can make a difference in the lives of unemployed people along with homeless people. This will alow readers of the magazine to look up to someone that can help or even find someone who could help. 

Logan wrote the informative side presentation of the topic where we wanted to inform our audience about things that cause the problem and things that can solve it. Logan’s informative project talked about how a highschool student can get a job and how they can develop the habits and techniques to be a good and successful worker at there job. Logan gave  the audience a step by step process on how to get a job if they needed help to do so. Johnathon wrote a audio podcast that described the causes of homelessness and how it effects the people’s lifes. It talks about how keeping a stable job will help the homeless rats go down. We needed to inform people of how it looks to have a healthy life style. We try to creat credibility be giving sources and studies that were made to bring out our issue.

We have a persuasive project by Logan and it was a slide show trying to persuade his audience to get a job. He tried to write it so that they could see the downside to being unemployed and how it can affect more than just their income. He tried to make his audience see the different people it would affect such as their family and their friends. The goal was to make the audience see why it was a problem to be unemployed and he tried to do this by making them almost scared of being unemployed because how it could ruin their life. Johnathon made flyers to persuade citizens that can make a difference by donating money to shelters instead of the people. We needed to show people that helping people is not the way it may always seem.

One of the leading causes of homelessness is unemployment, and those are both very detrimental places to be in life and we really want our audience to have a way to avoid this and help those who are in this situation to leave it.
